Mortgage loan (kredyt hipoteczny)
A loan secured by a mortgage on a property, usually granted to buy, build or renovate a flat or house. You repay it in instalments over many years.
The mortgage allows the bank to recover its money from the property if the loan is not repaid — which is why the interest rate is usually lower than on unsecured loans. The rules for granting such loans are governed by the Mortgage Credit Act (ustawa o kredycie hipotecznym).
