Land and mortgage register (księga wieczysta)

A public register kept by the district court that shows the legal status of a property: who owns it and what rights and encumbrances relate to it. You can check the register's content free of charge online in the EKW system (Elektroniczne Księgi Wieczyste) if you know its number.

The register has four sections. Section I describes the property and the rights attached to it, Section II names the owner or perpetual usufructuary, Section III contains limited property rights (e.g. easements), claims and restrictions on disposal, and Section IV — mortgages.
